Global Residence Programme
The Global Residence Programme (GRP) is a specific tax residence programme for non-EU, non-EEA and non-Swiss nationals. Subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions, including the acquisition or rental of immovable property in Malta, an individual and his/ her family could obtain tax residence in Malta and also benefit from a 15% tax rate on foreign income which is received in Malta, subject to a minimum annual tax of €15,000.
Seed's expertise, both from an immigration and tax perspective, come together to assist clients seeking to obtain tax residence in Malta through the GRP. Our tax team provides an explanation of the implications of obtaining tax residence in Malta through the GRP and how the remittance basis of taxation works - we work hand in hand with the clients' foreign advisors to ensure, not only, that the client complies with everything necessary to become tax resident in Malta, but that he/ she also complies with all that is necessary to exit their current tax residence jurisdiction. A correct exit from their country of tax residence is key in ensuring that there will be no complications for the clients in the years to come.
Our immigration team advises the clients on the specific requirements and also assists clients and their families to settle in Malta which also includes a number of practical suggestions when living on the island. We believe that the GRP offers a number of benefits which include:
Access to, and free travel within, the Schengen area
Access to high standards of education and healthcare
The possibility to reside in Malta, in a political and economically stable jurisdiction
